Day 16 - Chandigarh

15.10.2022
Day 16

Today Day 16, we are travelling further North to Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab and Haryana.

We left Jim Corbett National park at 7.00 am. Though a bit disappointed we could not see the elusive tiger, we have hopes we will get another opportunity soon.

Distance to cover today 350 kms and travel time approx 6.50 hours.

We realised our route is close to Haridwar and decided to take a detour to visit this Hindu pilgrimage site, where the River Ganges exits the Himalayan foothills.

After a quick visit to this ancient town (now more famous as home of Patanjali Ayurvedic) we made another detour to visit Roorkee, seat of higher education - the Roorkee IIT.

We reached Chandigarh at 4.00 pm and checked in at Ramada by Wyndham. Traffic was heavy in this city located at the foothills of Shivaliks, and planned by the famous French architect Le Corbusier, is known as one of the best experiments in urban planning and modern architecture in the twentieth century in India.

Today we had a great opportunity to visit a military regiment. What a proud moment for us!

Finally to cap it all, we had a bigger surprise to end the day. A friends brother, Harmandeep hosted us drinks and dinner at the majestic Golf Club in Chandigarh. Thank you Harmandeep Singh!

At end of day sixteen - 5756 kms on our tracker.
