Day 20
Hello All!
We completed half-way mark of our incredible tour of India! We are on the road for 19 days of our 38 day tour. Today is the 20th day and from Amritsar we commence our return journey towards South.
Today we are driving to Gurgaon, in Haryana, logical midway stop of our journey to Ranthambore in Rajasthan, our next major destination. The 500 kms drive is expected to take 8 1/2 hours. After breakfast, we start at 7.15 am and are on NH 44, which is very good mostly, but for some unfinished work in few sections.
We passed through:
(1) Jalandhar, a global hub for the manufacture of sporting equipment
(2) Ludhiana, Asia’s largest hub for bicycle manufacturing
(3) Phagwara, fine fabric textile mills (anyone remember JCT Mills football team?)
(4) Kurukshetra, land of Mahabharata and
(5) Panipat, the global centre for recycling textiles on our way to Gurgaon. The two states, Punjab and Haryana undoubtedly is a vital cog in the industrial and agricultural sector of India.
We were caught in huge traffic jams in couple of places, once due to road work and in Panipat because we missed the flyover.
In spite of excellent roads, driving is risky as many do not follow simple traffic rules and one must be vigilant to avoid accidents.
We reached Gurgaon at around 5 pm and checked in at Ramada by Wyndham for an overnight stay. Tomorrow is another long day on the road for us and we decided to rest for the journey ahead.
