Day 22
Our day started with our planned safari at Ranthambore National Park (old name Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary) starting at 6.45 am. It is a very pleasant morning, just right for a canter drive.
For the safari we chose a canter which can carry 20 people, which is an Eicher chassis converted to a canter.
The park has an area of approx 1400 sq kms and the terrain is dry deciduous forests and grassy meadow. The canter drive seemed more adventurous than the Jim Corbett gypsy drive we undertook recently. We entered the safari through Jogimahal Gate.
The canter drive, took us through the narrow road winding through the forests or open grassy meadows. One has to be careful sitting in the canter as the ride can be rough at times and you may find yourself on the floor!!
We were aware the chances of seeing the elusive tiger was low as its population in the park (estimated less than 80) is dwindling due to poaching. We missed seeing the big cats, but were lucky to see a number of of other species in the wild - viz: Antelopes, Spotted deer, Sambar deer, Crocodiles, Wild boars, Peacocks, Partridges, Monitor lizards (udumbu)
After safari we decided to rest and rejuvenate for the long drive to Jodhpur tomorrow.
End of day twenty two - 7315 kms (no change as we are parked inside resort) on our tracker.
